SISWD is pleased to offer a learning center for use by district schools, families, churches and clubs.  The 900 square foot building offers learning activities in several venues, such as 'Art from Recyclables,' 'Smart Shopping Corner,' 'WORMS!', games such as Environmental Jeopardy, videos and computer teaching games.  Arrangements for a visit can be made by calling Betsey Vonderheide at 812-574-4080.

Native Americans understood the importance of maintaining a pristine land in order to perpetuate the abundance they enjoyed.  It is said that they considered it their responsibility to leave no footprint on the Earth…to leave no physical evidence that they had passed this way.

We need to pay attention to that.  We haven’t done a very good job so far.

Education is a priority in reducing the environmental damage we do to the Earth.  SISWD is pleased to have a regular presence in our district schools through the distribution of "Trash Talk," a quarterly newspaper with articles about recycling and the environment, written specifically for children,

Similarly, "One Man's Trash" is inserted in area newspapers four times a year with information for adult readers.

The SISWD staff often makes presentations to classrooms, civic organizations, or governmental meetings to advocate environmental stewardship to the public.

The Southeastern Indiana Solid Waste District stands ready to assist your school, organization, or municipality to learn about the benefits of conscientious solid waste management.
