Why Reuse?

Reuse is often confused with recycling, but the two terms really mean something different.  Reuse in the broadest sense means any activity that lengthens the life of an item. Recycling, on the other hand, is the reprocessing of an item into a new raw material for use in a new product -- for example, grinding tires and incorporating them into a road-surfacing compound.

Reuse is nothing new; it is just now being embraced as an additional method of supporting the earth.

Reuse can be accomplished through buying and selling, borrowing, or renting used items.  Why is reuse so important?

The Reuse Challenge!

What do you have tucked in a corner, collecting dust at home, that someone else might be able to use?  Clothes? Appliances? Toys? Books?  Whatever it is, if it is in good working order, bring it to your closest reuse center and we'll see that it gets a good home where it will be reused and appreciated as if it were new.

Jefferson County residents are encouraged to donate their reusable items to a charitable organization, such as the Salvation Army, Goodwill Industries, or church pantries.

The Switzerland/Ohio County Reuse Center does not accept clothing.  Citizens are urged to donate clothing to a charitable organization.
