Youth and adult education is a priority in reducing the environmental damage we do to the Earth. SISWD is pleased to have a regular presence in our district schools through the distribution of Trash Talk! a quarterly newspaper with articles about recycling and the environment, written specifically for children. Similarly, One Man's Trash... is inserted in area newspapers four times a year with information for adult readers.
SISWD sponsors a recycling competiton among its 50+ schools during the school year. Participating schools which meet certain criteria are awarded a prize at the end of the challenge. The challenge for the 2011-2012 is Get Green! Eighteen schools have signed up to take our challenge this year.
Each year, three Students Making an Environmental Difference scholarships are made available to high school seniors throughout our seven-county district. Scholarships in the amounts of $2000 first, $1000 second, and $500 third place are available for the 2011-2012 school year. This year's deadline is Mon., Apr. 2, 2012 at 3:00pm.
